Ft. Lauderdale Hurricanes vs. North West Broward Raiders
Put up or Shut up!
By Travis Thomas
Ever since the SFYFL schedule was released there’s been a steady buzz in the North division. That buzz has been generated by a fairly new, yet very intense rivalry. The Northwest Broward Raiders and the Fort Lauderdale Hurricanes have been at each other’s throats verbally, and on the field for the last few years. Let’s go back to the 2008 season, when the Raiders upset the seemingly invincible Hurricane 110 lb. squad. That game caught the entire league off guard, everyone except the Raiders, that is. Since then the Hurricanes have reclaimed their throne in the 110 lb. division. Likewise the rest of the park has been nothing short of dominant, yet the Raiders still won’t go away quietly. Last year during the Hurricanes 135 lb. championship campaign, the lone blemish on their record was a loss to; you guessed it, the Raiders.
That loss occurred on a Sunday afternoon, at a neutral field. Not to take anything away from the Raiders though, they came out and capitalized on several Hurricane miscues, and fought off a furious rally at the end to come away with the well earned victory. Fast forward to this season, that previously mentioned 110 lb. team has reunited for another run at the title. The coaches from both programs haven’t been at a loss for words, regarding this match up. Seemingly, everywhere that they happen to cross each other’s paths, it becomes a war of words.
It’s been a long offseason for everyone, and this all teams chomping at the bit for some action. You just hope that no one bites off more than they can chew. This game is going down at Mills Pond, and the Hurricanes are more than eager to prove that, last year’s championship was no fluke. The Raiders are looking to establish themselves as more than one year wonders. Their 120 lb. team was the league runners up in 2009. On the other hand the Hurricanes don’t rebuild, they reload. It should be an interesting game this Saturday as the teams finally get to handle the old fashioned way, on the field. Come game time they’re going to have to, put up or shut up!

So who won the game??
canes 13 raiders 2. both are real good teams we had the edge saturday when the game got rained out we where up 2-0 in the second quarter. we made the game up last night and we came out flat and you cant afford that when you are playing a great team with great coaching. we look forward to hopfully seeing them again. we both made a lot of mistakes and had some bad calls by refs but we all know thats part of the game. good job canes.
