105 POUND SHOWDOWN IN DAVIE!
BY ERIC IKPE
Davie--- In the AYFL, the 105 pound action has been intense with multiple teams still sporting an undefeated record pass the halfway mark in the season. One of those teams is the new kids on the block, the Davie Broncos 105’s. The Wildcats a strong team in its one right, visited Bamford Sports Complex, the home of the Broncos.
Plantation came out the gate making plays in their first drive. #5 Wide Receiver Noah Hart hauled in a 35 yard catch from Wildcats’ QB, #1 Julian Rodriguez on their first play to put them in Broncos' territory. That drive stopped when #3 Running back/Defensive back, Ricardo Hallman picked off Plantation’s QB, #1 Julian Rodriguez. to shift the momentum in the Broncos favor.
On the ensuing drive, Broncos’ #3 Ricardo Hallman shook would-be-tacklers for twenty-five yards and dashed his way into the end zone (extra point was no good). Broncos lead 6-0.
Plantation came right back executing plays on the ground behind #10 running back, Dylan Robertson as he ran over tacklers all the way down to the Broncos' 6 yard line. On the next play #1 Julian Rodriguez throws his second interception, this time it was Broncos’ #9 Kellen Madison (Former Dolphin Sam Madison son) with the huge play.
Davie attempted to increase the lead, but Plantation’s, #10 Dylan Robertson along with other Wildcats stuffed the Broncos offensive attack. Plantation answered back and scoring on a 6-yard run from #1 Julian Rodriguez (extra point was good). Wildcats lead, 8-6.
Seventeen seconds before the end of the first half, Broncos' running back, #2 Coleman Bennett (Former NFL fullback Donnell Bennett's son) scores on a 45-yard touchdown. Broncos take back the lead, 12-8.
At the start of the third quarter, Wildcats’, #10 Dylan Robertson recovered a bad snap from #75 Center Kyle Herrera to shift gears. The Broncos' did not allow any offensive momentum and denied the Wildcats' from scoring.
Davie came right back throwing the ball, this time the ball was deflected and #8 Quarterback Peter Zamora threw his first interception of the game. On the ensuing drive Plantations’ #10, Dylan Robertson scores, but it was called back due to a false start called. That did not stop the Wildcats' from scoring on the next play when #1 Julian Rodriguez airs it out to wide receiver, #6 Jacolby George for 20 yards to take the lead, 14-12.
On the kickoff possession, Wildcats kick it deep to Broncos’ #3 Ricardo Hallman, who potentially may have the play of the year, as he turned in one of the most exciting kickoff returns for a 90 yard touchdown, with less than two minutes in the game. The Wildcats attempted to score, but the Broncos' defense maintained their composure and came up victorious. Winning, 18-14.
"It was a great game, and we have to keep working hard," Head Coach Oronde Gadsen said. "It was a team effort and as long as we stay away from the mental errors, we will be fine."
The undefeated Davie Broncos will be taking on the talented and undefeated Miramar Wolverines, 105’s this coming weekend. Should be a great one to watch.
