Right before a big game or tournament athletes kick their training into high gear; but for 13 year old Zach “The Tank” Sherman, intense workouts are a daily ritual. Zach is one of the top ranked youth wrestlers in the country. He’s a Florida State champion in three different styles, granting him the Triple Crown title. His success isn’t based on talent alone; trainer and co-founder of the Ultimate Sports Institute, Dave Busch trains with Zach several times per week. “Zach’s amazing because he pretty much comes in with the determination and motivation on his own. He is one of the most self-driven athletes I’ve ever worked with” says Busch of his young trainee.
Zach has a great support system which starts with his dad, Gary Sherman. Sherman is at every practice and training session making sure his son is giving it his all. While his trainers jokingly call Zach “The Stud”, Sherman sees what’s behind the discipline saying, “What sets him apart is he has tremendous heart. He leaves it all out on the mat.”
Zach travels throughout the country to compete against the top wrestlers in his weight class. While his drive is partially due to his competitive nature, he says his biggest competition is himself. His goal is to wrestle at the collegiate level and become an NCAA champion.
