HIALEAH, Fla. -- Champagnat Catholic is a small school located in Hialeah, FL that's only two seasons removed from winning the FHSAA 2A State Championship.
The small school has a big-time prospect on campus for the class of 2020 (8th Grade) that goes by the name Jesus Machado. The lions' pass-rush specialist has started at both -- outside linebacker and defensive end this season. Jesus stands 6-foot-1 and weighs approximately 180 pounds.
Last season, playing for Florida Youth Football League -- Miami Gardens Ravens 13U football team -- Jesus was credited with over (10) sacks and helped his team win both their league championship and Orange Bowl championship.
This past summer, jesus earned a roster spot in the Florida vs. Georgia 7th grade All-Star Game. Not only did he make the team, but he was named to the Florida's Top Performer's List of the week. On gameday, it would be a South Florida takeover as both student-athletes from Miami, FL would represent on both sides of the ball.
Tamiami Colts (Midgets) RB Andre Stringfield would earn the game Offensive MVP and DL Jesus Machado would add to the hardware by earning the FUTURE STARS game Defensive MVP.
Jesus youth football coach of the Miami Gardens Ravens 13U football team --Travis Thomas, felt it would be in his student-athlete best interest to send the pass rush specialist to high school and not return to youth football. Here's what coach Travis Thomas had to say about Jesus Machado:
" Jesus, or Zeus as we call him, was one the most coachable kids on the team. Him and his fellow defensive lineman, were definitely the heart and soul of our team. His tenacity, definitely helped make our defense one of the most formidable in the league. He will be a measuring stick for our staff for many seasons to come"
Despite measuring in at in eye-catching 6-foot-1 for a 14-year-old, he's far done from growing folks. Jesus father stands 6-foot-5 and his first cousin Miguel Machado -- is the starting right tackle for #2 ranked Michigan State and he stands 6-foot-6 and weighs 300-pounds.
This fall, Jesus is doing exactly what is youth football coach Travis Thomas stated, playing with tenacity. According to Miami Herald Sportstrac Leaderboard -- Jesus will be ranked the #1 sack leader in Miami-Dade 5A-2A Classification and #3 overall in South Florida with (7) sacks within three games this season once his stats is updated.
Last weekend vs. International School of Broward -- The 8th grader was credited for (12) tackles and (4) sacks for 25 yards. He's doing so well this fall on varsity that Head coach/Offensive Coordinator Dennis Marroquin told me that notable FBS programs -- Alabama, WVU, Syracuse and UGA is already showing high interest in the future phenom.
I was also fortunate to get incontact with an individual who spends the most time with Jesus Machado and that's none other than the lions' varsity defensive line coach Chuck Brown Jr.
" Jesus is a kid that's so quiet, you wouldn't know he's in practice until it's time to do team. He leads by example on the field. He earned his respect from the upperclassmen the first week of full pads, jesus is coach able and from walk thru to game time he goes 110 %. He doesn't know how not to work hard and that comes from his father getting maximum potential from him, and I guarantee whoever gets this kid when he goes to college will be getting one of the best in the nation. He led the team in tackles at DE last week." said coach Brown Jr.
Jesus Machado was the preseason #1 rated defensive lineman in South Florida for the class of 2020 according to Generation Nexxt Scouting.
