RICHMOND HEIGHTS, FLA. -- Gwen Cherry Bulls vs. Richmond Giants, Pee Wee/130lbs. football game brought out the city. You had youth football coaches and student-athletes in attendence right after their games was over to see the showdown that people including myself circle on their calender before the start of the season.
The first play of the game -- the giants offensive coordinator,Sheldon "Shoo" Smith designed a perfect trick play on a double reverse pass, but the wide receiver dropped it and the giants would later go three-and-out.
It was the defending national champions turn on offense (Gwen Cherry) -- as they broke the huddle, lining up in large splits at offensive line with an unbalance look signal in by offensive coordinator -- Tavares Blackman. Running back (#6) Deandre Francis would take a handoff which appeared through the three h*** the distance for a 57-yard touchdown to put the bulls up (6-0).
The giants offense during the 2nd quarter would find the end zone -- lining up in an empty formation spreading the bulls defense and Quarterback (#3) James Johnson would find wide receiver (#2) Jason Marshall in the middle of the field for a 26-yard touchdown to tie the game (6-6).
The next time either team would reach the end zone would be mid-way through the 4th quarter. The game changing play of the game wasn't an actual play, but several MPR kids was forced into action and the bulls captialized. The bulls all around athlete -- (#2) Malik Rutherford would later muscle his way into the end zone for a go ahead touchdown putting the game away.
Richmond Giants defensive end (#99) Michael Jackson made several tackles for loss and controlled his side of the field the majority of the day. The Bulls RB Deandre Francis rushed for over 130 yards displaying a great balance of speed and power and quarterback (#7) Tavares Blackman made several clutch throws to extend drives and milk the clock.
Shoot-out to Gwen Cherry Bulls offensive lineman -- (#13) Gabriel Myrthil, (#50) Martavious Robinson, (#3) Jordan Burns, (#52) Joseph Lyons and (#53) Garren Streeter . They opened up holes even I can run through and helped the bulls rush for over 200 yards on the day
