KENDALL HAMMOCKS WARRIORS 14u ON A WAR PATH!

By Jonah Woullard

Miami Dade Xtreme kicked off its season this past Saturday with the big boys of their league, the 14 under division. The stage was set at Curtis Park between the Kendall Hammocks Warriors and Miami PAL Jets.

The Jets, lead by Head Coach Joshua Alliot, came into the 2013 football season with 11 players that had never played organized football prior to this year. Coach Alliot said, “We have a lot of athletes that are extremely talented, but they are raw. They have a lot to learn about technique. Once we get their techniques down, we’ll be tough to beat.”

The Warriors, head coached by J.C. Escorcia said in a pre-game interview, “We have a lot of kids that are playmakers, but were most proud of how we consistently get 11 men to the ball on defense.”

This contest came down to the years of experience the Warriors had over the Jets on the field. The Warriors offense, lead by #1 Shamar Monroe who has been his team’s MVP on just about every team he played on since he’s played Pee Wees.

The Warriors wasted no time in showcasing the talents of a Mr. Monroe, #1, as he returned the opening kickoff for 71 yard touchdown. With hardly any celebration, the Warriors set their defense out on the grid iron and quickly set the tone against the Jets. Exotic run blitzes, called by Warriors defensive coordinator, Deon Harris, kept Miami PAL unbalanced throughout the entire game.

Offensively, Kendall Hammocks believes in the ground and pound of attack, and ground and pound is exactly what they did. Big runs by the Warriors quarterback, #2 Dorian Johnson, went for 27 yards on a bootleg play for a touchdown, increasing the lead to 14-0.

The Warriors scored another two times on the day. Runs by #3 Julian Harris and #1 Shamar Munroe increased the Warriors lead, defeating the Jets, 28-0.

Warriors’ Head Coach J.C. Escorcia said, “We saw a lot of good things out there today, but we still have a lot of things we need to correct to be competitive all season.”
