The Miami Xtreme 13U champions (Suniland Sundevils) -- added to their trophy room on Sunday -- by defeating the Helping Hands Bulls from the South Florida National Youth Football League, 24-0 to capture the Orange Bowl Championship.
Courtesy of mother nature (heavy rain) the game started off sloppy for both teams. According to my notes -- the sundevils' offensive coordinator Dray Smith and quarterback Brandon McDuffey, Jr. -- did an excellent job of spreading the ball around.
A total of six offensive athletes touched the ball. The first score of the game would take place late in the first quarter as QB Brandon McDuffey, Jr. would call his own number for a 1-yard touchdown. Placekicker Jamar Fairweather would drill the extra point right down the middle to extend the lead to (8-0).
The Helping Hands Bulls offense fail to reach the end zone this past weekend vs. Sundevils defense, but their QB Jason Williams accounted for several big plays -- using both his arm and legs and recorded over 100 all-purpose yards.
The sundevils' running back tandem Jahvar McSween and Kelvin Durham -- both kept the bulls defense honest using their speed to get up field.
Helping Hands Bulls defensive was led both defensive lineman Xaiver Moore and Isiah Lake. They (Moore & Lake) registered several tackles for loss and sacks.
QB Brandon McDuffey, Jr. would hit WR David Castillo (49 yards receiving) on a slant route and he (David) would quickly sprint up field for a 38 - yard gain and drag seveal defenders to the two yard line. The next play, QB Brandon McDuffey, Jr. - would call his number again, using his legs. The score is now 16-0.
The sundevils defense made play-after-play. Both LB Stanley Clark and DB Johnny Knight would catch a crunch time interception. Interior defensive lineman Johnny "Fridge" Haslell, Dante De Rosa and Kesean Norris-Hayes.
The sundevils WR Ulises Sarria would also take a slant up the field for 38 - yard gain as well. Later that drive,
QB Brandon McDuffey, Jr. would hit WR Johnny Knight on an underneath route for a touchdown. The score is now 24-0.
The Helping Hands Bulls defense pulled out two big time stops (Red Zone) vs. the sundevils high power offense. The bulls CB Myleak Howard would catch an interception and the second time, the defense would stop them at the 1-yard line.
