The Pahokee Blue Devils, Orange Bowl Bound
BY ERIC IKPE
In a match where two teams fought hard to take their talents to next week Orange Bowl showdown, the Pahokee Blue Devils(90lbs) were victorious defeating Liberty Square Colts, 21-6 Saturday, at Milander Stadium. It was a defensive match-up, as both teams had difficulties executing any offense that would result in a touchdown in the 1st quarter.
The Blue Devils, made a gutsy call going for it on 4th and long on their own 6 yard line, which resulted in a turnover and a 1 yard touchdown run by William Carswell, as he bulldozed his way into the end zone. Pahokee attempted to answer back before half, but Te'ron Jones and company pinned Pahokee's running attack to take us into halftime. On the opening drive it was all Blue Devils from start to finish, as they scored on their first possession behind Jatarie Washington, as he exploded for a 11 yard touchdown to take the lead, behind the extra point.
The Colts attempted to respond when De'Marcus Wright aired it out to William Carswell, but came up short giving the ball right back to the Blue Devils on the 12 yard line. On the ensuing drive, DeAnte Nelson carved his way in the end zone on a quarterback sneak to take us in the 4th quarter.
Liberty Square made several strides to score, but it was DeAnte Nelson making crucial hits and not allowing any offensive rhythm for the Colts. With some time for the Colts to stop the running attack, and attempt to score, Jatarie Washington put the dagger in the heart of the Colts, scoring his second touchdown that afternoon on a 35 yard run to end the game.
"I'm excited for my team; I'm excited right now I can't talk." Pahokee Head Coach Anthony Sheppard said.
