Austin,Tx – Landing at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport for the first time excited to be able to cover the Texas Youth Football All Star Showcase. Pulling up to Round Rock Multipurpose Facility you can feel the electric atmosphere of Texas Football with a crowd of over 6,000 on a Sunday, I begin to see and feel why Texas Football is treated as a religion. With All Star teams representing every major city from ages 7 to 12 years old it was truly a movie & with some of the top talent in the country. As I made my way around the Round Rock facilities which has 11 artificial turf fields but only 5 fields were being used. On those 5 fields it was standing room only to watch who would come out on top as the top city in each age group. I wouldn’t dare waste your time telling you about games I didn’t witness myself, the variety was plentiful but I have to say the Dallas, North & South Houston, Fort Worth, San Antonio teams seem to have the slight edge when it came down to overall talent. So rather than leaving out so many teams I’m going to give you a list of standout athletes from Sunday Championship day, boy oh boy it was some serious talent out there. Buckle up as I breakdown each prospects performance and what caught my eye. Generation NexXt would love to thank Clayton Guillory and the Texas Youth Football All Star Showcase committee for an outstanding well ran event & of courses the great Texas hospitality.

Texas Youth Football All Star Showcase Top Standouts

Name: Carson Green

Position: Athlete

Team: San Antonio All Stars 12u

Class: 2023

Skinnny

San Antonio Outlaws 12u were without a doubt one of the top teams in the country last year. You can’t be considered a top team without having some big-time players and that’s where this Class of 2023 X-factor come into play. Carson Green is a jack of all trades which he made clear this past weekend. It’s one thing to be gifted with the ball in your hands which I’d have to say Carson is a walking endzone threat anytime he possesses the ball. But the thing that makes this kid special is his heart and competitive nature he goes hard in all 3 phases of the game and refuses to be denied. Just know when your speaking of top kids in the Class of 2023 don’t forget this phenom he happens to be one of the best.

Name: Dillon Mitchell

Position: RB

Team: South Houston 7u

Skinny:

With so much talent at the Round Rock my problem was finding a game I can lock in on. I received some info from my guy SD Johnson his exact words were “You have to watch Superman I promised you won’t be disappointed he is one of the fastest kids in the country “. So, I took his advice and “Boom” this kid was off to the races on his second carry all I could say was wow that little guy is moving. Dillon wasn’t finish either and it wasn’t like he was playing against anybody he was competing versus North Houston for the Championship. On a direct snap Dillon seem to be bottled up in the backfield, but he would break a tackle hit the corner with one guy to beat who had an angle that he left in a blaze of dust by at least a 10-yard gap. While this kid may be young he has a focus far beyond his years and he is all business & humble.

Name: Xavier Owens

Position: RB

Team: North Houston 12u

Class:2022

Skinny:

Xavier Owens fits in that feature back role easily. You can consider him a big back according to youth football standards. Owens is a bigger back that has athletic skills of a smaller player. Owens showed off his full arsenal from his soft hands in the passing game to his tough running between the tackles. Oh yeah one more thing you can’t take for granted is his ability to take it the distance when in open field. When I found out this kid age I was even more impressed on how he is among the best even when competing versus older kids. Owens left it all on the field Sunday with an impressive showing in an All Star setting that speaks volumes of his talent.

Name: Landon McAfee

Position: Athlete

Team: North Houston 7u

Skinny:

In a closely match Championship game North Houston spark plug would prove to be Landon McAfee. McAfee is one of those players that doesn’t need tons of touches to leave his mark on the game. This kids first carry had me holding my breathe because he almost took it the distance on 3rd and long. With his team down 6-0 Landon took a jet sweep around the right corner for a 38-yard touchdown to help tie the score for his team. While Landon team would fall short of the championship at the end it wasn’t because of effort, because those guys left it all out on the field especially with Landon being his teams MVP.

Name: Jayden Cofield

Position:DL

Team: Austin 12u All Stars

Class: 2023

Skinny:

When I glanced across the field I saw a huge kid with a Oregon Duck helmet, so I locked in with my camera. I carefully watched this kid and found myself rewinding the film just to make sure it was real what I was seeing. After a defensive series I had to have this kid name which was Jayden Cofield only a 7th grader at that. Here’s my take on this big agile beast while he has so much room to get better, this kid is a dominant force you have to account for on every snap. Jayden shows smooth hips and is loose in his movement he uses his hands well and is very powerful. I won’t get ahead of myself but this Texan possesses all the physical attributes to become a real problem on the next level.

Name: Michael Dotson

Position: Athlete

Team: San Antonio 12u All Stars

Class: 2023

Skinny:

I’ve had the pleasure of watching the San Antonio Outlaws National ranked 12u play and what sticks out to me the most is their top players aren’t divas. What better way to stamp a kid than stamp them competing in a All Star setting. Michael Dotson is a dawg he talks the talk and also walks the walk. Kid didn’t give up any catches and most importantly he will pull up in run support and lay the wood. Michael is a athlete but I’d have to say I over love his potential as a defensive back kid has confidence, swag & an infectious personality. Keeping my eye on this kid for years to come just to see how he pans out.

Name: Jaylin Lucas

Position: Athlete

Team: Louisiana 12u All Stars

Class: 2023

Skinny:

Genetics plays a big part when it comes to sports not saying kids will end up being as good as family members apart of their bloodline. Like for instance Jaylin Lucas older brother is a major target on Power 5 schools recruiting boards. From the looks of Jaylin’s game this kid is on his way to following in his older brothers’ footsteps. Watching this young man compete you can’t help but to get excited every time he touches the ball. Versatility is what makes this prospect unique he has the skill set to excel at several positions he is that special. From Special teams to Db, Rb, Wr Jaylin is a kid that is going to make some type of impact to leave his mark on the game.

Name: Kenny Nguyen

Position: OL

Team: Dallas 12u All Stars

Class:2023

Skinny:

Observing Kenny Nguyen game, I have to say this young man is fundamentally sound. But his biggest strength is he is a technician when it comes to executing blocks he is strong at the point of attack and most importantly he finishes his blocks. Who ever is training this trenches warrior is doing a great job on getting him ready for the next level, because the more you watch him the more you see how he gets after it on every snap no plays off.

Name: Taddrick Davis

Position: LB

Team: North Houston

Class: 2023

Skinny:

You ever watch the cartoon the Tasmanian devil? I said that to say this watching this linebacker Taddrick Davis play is reminiscent of the Tasmanian devil all gas no brakes. I found myself rewinding the tape to make sure he wasn’t playing defensive line because that’s how frequent he was in the opponent’s backfield. Taddrick played so close to the line of scrimmage I had doubts about him making plays in the running game, but guess what he made all the plays finished the game with 16 tackles 2 sacks and 3 tackles for loss. Passionate about his game this tackling machine gives a 110% on every play, he is a player you have to account for on every play.

Name: DeMarcus Singleton

Position: Athlete

Team: Louisiana 12u All Stars

Class: 2023

Skinny:

Meet DeMarcus Singleton the thunder to Louisiana All stars thunder & lightning tandem. He is the thunder because he runs with an attitude with the footwork of a ballerina. DeMarcus can cut on the dime and runs behind his pads with an arsenal that includes a nasty stiff arm with an extra gear when he enters the second level you can chalk it up as 6. Not to be overlooked is his presence on the defensive side of the ball DeMarcus sets the tone with his physical play, you come his way expect to pay the price.

Name: Keldric Luster

Position: QB

Team: Dallas 12u All Stars

Class:2023

Skinny:

The state of Texas has a history of producing 5-star High school Quarterbacks so it’s only right for me to see what they do differently on the Youth level. I won’t go as far as making a guarantee a kid will pan out too many variables to do that. Now on the other hand watching Kendrick Luster this Dual-threat will have you making some bold predictions. With the ability to make every throw on the route tree, Keldric is the type of player defensive coordinators lose sleep over I witnessed this first hand. Pick your poison with this kid if you decide to attack him, he is advanced enough to make the right read. Keldric is so athletic if he pulls it down he has the ability to do some serious damage or even worse take it the distance. Only thing keeping this kid from blowing up on the next level is if he stops growing.

Name: Jamall Franklin Jr.

Position: OL

Team: Louisiana 12u All Stars

Class: 2023

Skinny:

When you have to look up at a young man to talk to him, the first thing you ask is “How old are you?” Well to my surprise 6’3”-326 lbs, Jamall Franklin Jr. Is only 12 years old. To see how fluent he was in his movement I ask this kid to run a couple gashes, to my surprise this kid was loose and could move. So, watching him I realized you don’t move a kid around on the offensive line unless he is a difference maker. Jamall is just that still very raw with a lot more to learn, but one thing for sure is once he gets is hands on you it’s a wrap kid is strong as an ox plus he keeps his feet moving on the blocks. One thing you can’t teach is size this Bayou state kid has plenty of that.

Name: Lontrell “BooBam”Turner

Position:RB

Team: Dallas 12u All Stars

Class:2023

Skinny:

Lontrell Turner is a very good athlete with very good speed, but it’s his feet and lateral agility that are truly next level. When BooBam puts his foot in the ground and hits it, he shows tremendous burst and gets to the second level in a hurry. In traffic he has the feet to bust out of the congestion and break a long run like he did in the Championship game. Turner took home MVP honors because he couldn’t be stopped accounting for 2 touchdowns and over 100 yards rushing. I love this kid patience & vision which was the biggest reason he lead his team to victory.

Name: Christopher Vestal

Position: DL

Team: Dallas 12u All Stars

Skinny:

The number 1# rule in football most coaches will preach till their blue in the face is “Games are won in the trenches”. Piggy backing off of that saying Dallas 12u All-stars dominated in the trenches led by Christopher Vestal overwhelmed players with his size & strength and the way he moves for a big guy is impressive. What impressed me the most about Vestal though, was his overall pad level and the use of his hands. If he continues to grow and keep his weight in check, he should be a dominating player on the next level
