THE BEST OF THE BEST OF THE SFYFL
By Jonah Woullard
The best of the best has been named “Champion” in the South Florida Youth Football League as the league’s Super Bowl was played November 21, 2010 at Lockhart Stadium. Sixteen of the SFYFL elite teams ranging from as far north as Deerfield to as far south as Northside in Miami, would all strap it up to be crowned Champions.
One of the most elite teams in the SFYFL is the undefeated Miami Gardens Vikings 165 LB team, which has outscored their opponents 336-28. The Vikings have a quick strike offense like no other featuring one of the best running backs in youth sports, Dalvin Cook #1. One Vikings fan referred to Dalvin as the “Bionic Man.” When asked, why you would use that adjective to describe the Vikings’ running back? The Vikings’ fan answered, “I’ve seen Dalvin do things on the football field no human can do, the kid is a machine.”
Well not only Dalvin, but the entire Vikings’ team has been machine like, posting several shut outs, and scoring at will against their opponents. Vikings head coach, Kirk Thomas explained, “The coaching staff implemented a system and the kids believed. Week in, and week out we didn’t take any team for granted, we played each down like it was our last, and that’s why we are the undefeated 2010 Super Bowl champs today.”
Congratulations to the Miami Gardens Vikings 165 LB team, finishing the season 13-0, and on top of their game holding up the trophy at the end of the year!
But the SFYFL day didn’t start just with the 165 LB teams, the following teams also dominated throughout the year and finished strong to be called “2010 Super Bowl Champs!” The Miami Gardens Ravens 135 LB team also won the 120 LB championship last year, and has enjoyed two undefeated seasons. The Ravens would not be denied as they battled back in a tight game to bring gold home again as 2010 SFYFL champions!
The Northside Panthers 120 LB team orchestrated one of the most prolific youth sports’ comebacks after overcoming being down 26-0. The Northside Panthers are the 120 LB SFYFL champs.
Deerfield Packer Rattlers 110 LB team overcame being the underdogs for this contest, facing an undefeated team that was rolling strong the entire season. The Rattlers game planning was excellent, and was enough to win the big show. Deerfield Packer Rattlers are the 110 LB SFYFL champions.
Coach Frye kept his Lauderhill Lions 100 LB team focused all year. This team never paid attention to any off field distractions, but stayed locked on winning games every week. After playing 13 games, the Lions never lost one on the field, including the Super Bowl Championship game. The Lauderhill Lions are the 100 LB SFYFL Super Bowl Champs!
The 90 LB and 80 LB Super Bowl championship teams are cut from the same cloth and from the same program. The Ft. Lauderdale Hurricanes show just why they have been such a dominate program over the years, winning back to back weight classes in the Super Bowl. The 80 LB & 90 LB Ft. Lauderdale Hurricanes are 2010 SFYFL champions.
The Miami Gardens Cowboys coached by Coach Wright and Coach Lee have won back to back super bowls with this group of kids. The Cowboys were looking for redemption since their opponent was the only team that previously game the Cowboys a loss. And the Cowboys did just that, redeemed themselves by winning the 2010 SFYFL 70 LB. Super Bowl Championship!
Congratulations to all the teams that participated in the Super Bowl games, you have been “Rated G!”
