“True Warriors” On The Field
By Tyrell Humphries
The grills were fired up, the parents were fired up and the kids were fired up and ready to play some football on Saturday in College Park, Georgia. The 8U True Warriors from Lithonia, Georgia came to face the defending champion 8U Old National Knights. The True Warriors held nothing back from the kickoff and played like true warriors the entire game defeating the Old National Knights 37-6.
The Old National Knights did everything they could, but running back #1 Destin Johnson of the True Warriors was too much to handle. Destin had over 200 yards rushing and two touchdowns. On Defense Destin was the the safety and covered the field from sideline to sideline making some pad-rattling tackles. On offense, Destin was in great company as he shared the handoffs with #32 Terrion Hall. Terrion had a juke fest when he was handed the ball, shaking defenders right and left before he found his way to the end zone on two occasions.
The Warriors jumped out to an early lead and never took their feet off of the gas pedal. At half time the score was 31-6. Coach Adrian Carner and Coach O had a plan to make sure that it stayed that way. The old National Knights had a running back that was very hard to contain and scored the only touchdown that the Knights had so far. The coaches had a plan to keep outside containment for the remainder of the game to limit the yardage that the Knight’s offense was producing. With defensive linemen #99 Larry on the job, the task was flawlessly executed. Larry was a force to be reckoned with as he cut through the offensive line to disrupt the offense. To make matters worse for the Knights, when they kicked the ball off to the Warriors, #21 Darecus Ware scooped the ball up and returned it for a touchdown.
The Old National Knight are the defending 8U champions and the True Warriors came to College Park to make their mark in the Metro Atlanta Youth Football League (MAYFL). Look out for this very explosive team in the future.
